"books are for people who wish they were somewhere else"
                                                                                                      - Mark Twain

...with every ghost of what I knew

....this is a band I barely-discovered years ago when living in Sheffield....somehow their song, Too Too Fast from The Rhumb Line, has survived the filtration of my music archives and recently made it onto a Modern Romance playlist - and it went down an indie treat. Their latest single, Boy, from new album The Orchard (by new I mean August and my finger is slightly off the pulse) has lost none of the energy first produced by this band...i have no idea why they're still so unheard of over here.....

and you tell me, you tell me not to cry...

Sea Talk - Zola Jesus

...taken from the new album, Stridulum II, released in August. Zola a mixing cauldron of Kate Bush, Fever Ray and Florence....just finished the second of two UK tours this year and I'm sad to have missed both.

it's cold outside...when you coming home?

oh..hello blog. i haven't seen you since, shit...August.
well...tonight i found myself prepping for another Modern Romance....trawling through blogs of new music....and i realised poor old paper street has been abandoned for far too long. could i not share this gem....

Not In Love - Crystal Castles feat. Robert Smith's been doing the rounds for a little while but by golly it's really got my attention now.

recent happenings

i think i'm the worst blogger ever. i don't blog.

however, i'm very excited to report that i shall soon be the proud owner of this special little tshirt (as worn by hot girl in photo hopeitlooksasgoodonme - left)....schwing.

i've also been busy buying gig tickets for The Joy Formidable, Errors w/The Twilight Sad, The National and The Black Keys w/The Walkmen....a very exciting schedule for the rest of 2010 (also one more gig but they are surprise tickets for someone so shhhh...)

other ponderings have been whether to make 2011 the year that i eventually make it to Coachella.....all donations welcome. thanks.

watch these hands pull apart...

Whirring - The Joy Formidable

Tuesday, 6 July 2010

now i make no plans...

...really love the unique sound of Victoria & Jacob - after hearing the rumblings of a new single in progress which will, without a doubt, hit radios near our ears upon release - i was drawn to cyber-stalk for other songs and found With No Certainty (with no difficulty as Google's top result).

They remind me of bits of Passion Pit and Imogen Heap in parts...but i really think they've hit on a sound which will impress all of us foot-tappers, lyric-lovers and beat-matchers alike. Cannot wait to see them live for the first time at The Macbeth in Hoxton this Friday....

I aint scared of lovin you
baby I know your afraid of a lot of things
dont be scared of love

people will say all kinds of things
that dont mean a damn to me
cause all I see
is whats in front of me
and thats you

i've taken hits time just don't erase
and baby i can see you've been fucked with too
but that dont mean your lovin days are through

cause people will say all kinds of things
that don't mean a damn to me
cause all I see

and thats you

I can't believe that I said that I love you...

And We Parted Ways At Mt Jade - A Grave With No Name

described by Pitchfork as "lo-fi haze, hypnagogic pop pastiche" i can't get enough of this band. Playing the Shoreditch 1234 festival this month with other No Pain In Pop beauties like Trailer Trash Tracys and Veronica Falls. Musings of a dream pop/shoegaze night on the horizon..

could there modern romance?
