...with every ghost of what I knew

....this is a band I barely-discovered years ago when living in Sheffield....somehow their song, Too Too Fast from The Rhumb Line, has survived the filtration of my music archives and recently made it onto a Modern Romance playlist - and it went down an indie treat. Their latest single, Boy, from new album The Orchard (by new I mean August and my finger is slightly off the pulse) has lost none of the energy first produced by this band...i have no idea why they're still so unheard of over here.....

well...tonight i found myself prepping for another Modern Romance....trawling through blogs of new music....and i realised poor old paper street has been abandoned for far too long. and.....how could i not share this gem....

Not In Love - Crystal Castles feat. Robert Smith

all i see is what's in front of me...

don't hold on
go get strong
well don't you know
there is no modern romance

Time, time is gone
it stops stops who it wants
well i was wrong
it never lasts
there is no
this is no modern romance

in time, time is gone
never lasts, stops who he was
well i was wrong
never lasts

this is no
there is no modern romance
there is no modern romance
this is no modern romance
there is no there is no

new beginnings...

so i've been away from paper street for a little while....but what have i been doing? well...mainly moving house, and i adore my new home...especially my huge shower which (yet to be confirmed) i believe could hold up to 8 people at any one time...musical statues anyone?

also...Modern Romance has been taking up plenty of my time. Andy and I have been working furiously to fill our stage at The CAMP with sweet sweet music...so far we have booked Strangeways (29 April) and Stairs to Korea (27 May)....more to be confirmed very soon! This is very quickly turning into a full time job and it makes me really happy but boy am I exhausted...

cool kids...they belong together..

...since i left Sheffield and my beloved Fuzz Club, which nurtured my love of indie music, i've longed for a replacement...somewhere that i can pretend i'm some cool front woman whilst shouting the lyrics of every song in the faces of my friends. After many a disappointed night i've decided to start my own night....and here it is...

Two kids born on the sticky floors of Sheffield indie clubs are reviving their lost anthems in East London. Amongst the abundance of disco and dubstep we shall revel in the bellowed choruses of such bands as Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Futureheads and The Smiths – taking us back to the early 2000s when our only worries were broken Converse and affording the cab fare home.

Modern Romance: your Auntie's 7" collection, your favourite old college mixtape, and the noise from your kid brother's bedroom. Frock up and dance to forgotten favourites, hidden treasures and future playlists. An indie-disco for you to fall in love with.

...making our first appearance at The Old Blue Last this Sunday and again at The Ink Rooms on Easter Friday....i better go, i have some work to do!
